New to Winnipeg

NEW TO WINNIPEG

As a resident of Winnipeg since summer 2002, I write to share my experience with you.
Since my family and I landed in Winnipeg, we noticed the welcoming and friendly spirit in the city. Winnipeg’s hospitality warmed up our first winter in Winnipeg.

According to Statistic Canada website, Winnipeg population had a growth of 6.3% from
2016 to 2021. This compares to the provincial average of 5.0% and the national average of 5.2%.
What attracts newcomers to the city that critics call it Winterpeg?
We do not necessarily need to search for “Winnipeg’s things to do” before we know
Winnipeg is being appreciated for the city’s art and cultural scene. Although I do not
think that is the reason for growing population.

One of the specialties and well-known features of Winnipeg is winters.

In the city where Christmas snow is guaranteed, dry winter cold makes it more tolerable
compare to the damper cold in some other cities in Canada.

Although owning a car is always beneficial for a family in Winnipeg, many people use city transit.
We have been witnessed upgrades in transit in last few years. According to citynews.ca
(2022/07/07) it is getting more updates and “Manitoba is proud to invest nearly $170 million to improve and modernize Winnipeg’s public transit system.”
Winnipeg has been known for it’s affordable housing.

During the pandemic, many cities in Canada lost their privileges to shelter people

affordable. With the new market after the pandemic, we are hoping to reach to a new
balance.
Growing Winnipeg brings new job opportunities to the city. More job opportunities

always ends up to more Winnipegers.
